There was a time when Volkswagen's mission was to sell a car that literally everyone could afford. Today, the most affordable model offered by the German automaker is the Jetta, which has a starting price close to $30,000. The price tag is even steeper when looking at electric models.
Volkswagen seems to have found a new way to connect with the people through the ID. EVERY1, a fully electric concept car expected to be priced around €20,000. Unfortunately, there’s a reason why we don’t know its Canadian price—it won’t be available here. At least, that’s the decision for now.
Unlike most of its competitors, Volkswagen is working on several small and affordable electric cars. We already know that the ID.2all will hit the market in 2026 with a price around €25,000. As for the ID. EVERY1, it will be even more affordable, with an expected price of around €20,000. Volkswagen plans to launch the production model in 2027.
Both vehicles will be built on the new front-wheel-drive MEB platform.
From a technological standpoint, the Volkswagen ID. EVERY1 is a very interesting car. It will feature new software that can be updated even after it reaches consumers. The automaker will be able to add "new functions to adapt to individual consumer needs."
The German automaker’s small city car boasts a charismatic and elegant design. Inside, the style is more refined and minimalist. However, the ID. EVERY1 remains a functional vehicle.
Mechanically, we know that Volkswagen’s small city car will be powered by a 95-horsepower electric motor. It should offer a range of at least 250 kilometers on a full charge.
While this may not be the case in the U.S., here in Canada—especially in Quebec—we have a strong preference for small European cars like the ID. EVERY1. Who knows? Maybe by 2027, the German automaker will change its mind and decide to include Canada in the markets where its new 100% electric city car will be available.
